Curriculum

Born in Malaga, Spain in 1964, he discovered his musical vocation when he became, almost by chance, a member of the Manuel de Falla Choir at the University of Granada, while he was studying for a degree in Classical studies. After returning to Malaga, he became one of the founding members of Carmina Nova Choir. He started studying piano and singing at the Conservatorio de Música and began to compose pieces for piano and for choir, in a classic style, that didn't interfere with his search for different styles. His constant interaction with choirs and his love of poetry have made him, almost exclusively, an author of choral music that brings together poetry and music. The key to his creativity is music at the service of words, never the other way around.

In 1995 his composition titled Tres Villancicos Pictorescos was awarded the first prize in the Christmas Carol Competition, sponsored by the “Fundación Caja Granada”. In 2007 his song titled Como el Mar was awarded the third prize in the VIII Coral Composition Competition “Ciudad de Getafe”.

His music has been included twice, in 1998 and 2004 in the Comtemporary Music Season in Malaga, that is organized jointly by Malaga's Philharmonic Orchestra, the City Hall and the Andalusian regional government (Junta de Andalucía). In January 2009 his piece titled Divertimento was played for the first time in the above mentioned Contemporary Music Season.

In October 2007 at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Malaga, he presented and acted as conductor, in a recital called Music for Poetry. Fourteen of his songs, seven of them for the first time, were performed by the Grupo Vocal Fusión.

He has been a high school teacher since 1998 and is now working on composing religious music with the idea of increasing and renewing the polyphonic repertoire in the liturgy, something he started in 1996 when he created the Coral Corpus Christi, in the parish of the same name, in Malaga.

He has taken part in several short courses in conducting and coral singing workshops with the following composers and conductors: Albert Alcaraz, Julio Domínguez, Dante Andreo, José Ramón Gil, Javier Busto, Basilio Astúlez, Jordi Casas, Marco Antonio García de Paz, Josep Vila, Esteban Urzelai, David Azurza, Maite Oca, Ana María Raga, Néstor Zadoff, John Washburn, Gary Graden, Johan Duijck, Néstor Andrenacci and Martin Schmidt.

Currently he belongs to Camerata Victoria vocal ensemble, created in 2015 to perform the music of the Spanish Renaissance and mainly of our greatest composer, Tomás Luis de Victoria.
